In the wake of the recession in 2008, the immigration trends in the United States shifted quite a bit. The number of people entering the country fell, and it wasn’t until recently that the numbers started to shift back to their pre-recession rates.
New figures show that a big influx of Asian immigrants in the last year drove a skyrocketing immigration rate in the U.S. The nation’s immigrant population rose by roughly 1 million people last year. The immigrant population in the U.S. was 42.4 million before the recently influx of people in the last year.
Immigration has been a hot topic in the presidential campaign, but we won’t get into the politics here. What is interesting about all of this, though, is that even though immigration numbers had been down recently (before this past year), the fervor over immigration only got more intense.
No matter where stakeholders stand on the matter of immigration, there is one thing all agree on: the system never stays the same. Changes are always occurring within the U.S. immigration system, and that makes it very tough on the people who are trying to enter the U.S. to make a better life for themselves.
