New in-person interview requirements announced for certain immigration processes

There are many types of U.S. immigration benefits individuals can seek out. The application processes for each of these benefits vary in what rules are connected to them. When a person is applying for a given immigration benefit, it can be important for them to have an accurate understanding what rules apply to their case.

For one, such an understanding can help a person have a clear idea of what to expect during the application process. It could also help inform them of what preparations it could be important to make for the various steps of the process.

Immigration lawyers can advise individuals on what the application process for a given U.S. immigration benefit they desire involves. They can also give them guidance on preparing for this process.

Sometimes, changes are made to the requirements connected to certain immigration matters. Recently, some changes regarding what processes in-person interviews will be required for were announced.

Specifically, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that it will be expanding in-person interview requirements to a couple of processes for seeking out immigration benefits that that currently don’t always include such interviews. The two types of processes the requirement is being added to are those involving:

  • Individuals pursuing a green card through an adjustment of status based on employment.
  • Certain matters related to asylee/refugee relatives.

The phasing-in of these new requirements is set to start on Oct. 1. The agency also noted that it has plans for further expansion of interview requirements in the future.

One wonders how the phasing-in will go and what impacts the new requirements will end up having on the immigration applicants they apply to.
